international sisters’ day

It’s something I’ve said for years (and as far as I’m concerned, it never gets old) that my sister’s birthday falls on International Women’s Day.  That’s how I remember when it is!  And yes, I know I’m late in posting this—or maybe I’m early for 2019.

Not to cause any political controversy, but a multitude of women (and some men) feel this was an especially important observance of the day.  A new hashtag, #PressforProgress, has been the feature this time.  I don’t think I need to rehash (sorry for the pun) the events of the past year.  One thing I’m thinking about is the subject of my post on the #MeToo movement.

It is difficult to ignore, however, a US leader with the immensity of treating women as objects—even which have been the subject of bragging, of so-called “locker room talk.”

But the celebration of this day far exceeds the political of any nation at any time.  As people of Christian faith, and people of good will, Jesus Christ is an example for anyone.  In a time when women were treated as children, he committed the sin of treating them as equals.  As St. Luke reports the outrage: Jesus “went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources” (8:1-3).

Yikes!  He not only treated them as equals, but he let them help finance his ministry.  Another outrage.

If there was anyone who would celebrate International Women’s Day, it would be our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He really loved his sisters!
